Are you compliant with the new NEC lockout/tagout requirements?

The National Electrical Code (NEC) recently changed the requirement for breakers in applications that require a lockout and tagout (LOTO) provision.

NEC 110.25 : "If a disconnecting means is required to be lockable open elsewhere in the Code, it shall be capable of being locked in the open position. The provisions shall remain in place with or without the lock installed."

What does this mean?

This means it is required for a protective device to have a LOTO mechanism that is permanently fixed on the breaker. The LOTO mechanism cannot be an accessory that is readily removable. This requirement excludes the use of “portable” LOTO devices such as breaker toggle LOTOs intended for temporary application.

E-T-A’s 4230 Series Breaker and X4230 Series Breaker LOTO are compliant with NEC 110.25.

The X4230 Series Breaker LOTO is permanently fixed to the breaker body. It is available in 1 pole, 2 pole, and 3 pole configurations and has provisions for 6 1/4 inch locks.
