Decentralised DC 24 V power supply for modern processes
The DC 24 V power supply of industrial plants is subject to constant change. While control cabinets used to be installed primarily outside potentially explosive atmospheres, the process industry is now increasingly transitioning to decentralised power supply concepts. Electrical components are installed in the immediate vicinity of the application. This helps reduce cable lengths and installation costs and improve response times. However, the requirements for the protection devices used are changing, specifically in the ATEX Zone 2.
In potentially explosive atmospheres, even the smallest ignition sources, such as electrical sparks or hot surfaces, can trigger an explosion. Consequently, strict safety requirements and legal regulations apply, particularly under the European ATEX Directive. Preventive safety concepts are becoming increasingly important, displacing traditional protective measures, such as pressure-resistant enclosures. The aim is to prevent any incidents that could cause a fire.
Electronic circuit protectors such as the REX22D from E-T-A play an important role in this regard. These devices continuously monitor the current flow and selectively switch off the affected circuits in the event of an overload or short circuit. This prevents the development of flammable energy. The REX22D is certified for use in Zone 2 areas and is part of the modular REX system for DC 24 V power distribution.

The system enables flexible and scalable power distribution with minimal wiring required. Thanks to a wide range of different module variants, and single- and double-channel circuit protectors, it can be adjusted to the specific application. The integrated communication interfaces and comprehensive diagnostic functions ensure a high level of transparency and efficient maintenance.
