The right path for signals using system solutions
The manufacturer's previous solution was already outdated. The in-house control system was experiencing problems with component discontinuations, and the wiring effort per vehicle was constantly increasing. The control unit was installed in a control box located in the centre of the vehicle. All incoming and outgoing cables were first connected to DIN rail terminals and then wired inside the control box.
With the increasing number of sensors and additional components required by modern truck-mounted work platforms, this design reached its limits. The time required for both cabling and troubleshooting during commissioning increased steadily. That is why the manufacturer opted for a new, modern solution.
Initially, the choice fell on a standard control system. In future, the numerous incoming and outgoing cables will be routed via a circuit board to the ECU connectors. E-T-A supported the manufacturer as a project partner throughout the project. This included the design phase for gathering and grouping ideas, the development of the circuit diagram and layout, as well as prototype construction and subsequent testing, right up to the start of series production.

Based on the requirements, E-T-A worked with the manufacturer to develop a solution that not only handles signal routing but can also perform various additional functions. Appropriate debugging and termination options have been implemented for the different communication interfaces. Where necessary, signals are physically isolated using optocouplers. Furthermore, a wide range of non-safety-critical loads are protected and controlled. The fuse paths are fitted with LEDs to facilitate troubleshooting.
Finally, the circuit board is coated to ensure optimal protection against condensation. All in all, the customer receives a tailor-made and future-proof solution for their truck-mounted work platforms.
